Bio/CV: 

I joined the faculty at U.C. Berkeley in Fall 2006 after finishing my PhD at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. My first book, Continuity and Change in Irish Poetry, 1966-2010(link is external)appeared in 2012. A second book, The Cambridge Introduction to British Poetry, 1945-2010(link is external), was published in 2015; a third, The Value of Poetry(link is external)appeared in 2020. My first book of poetry, Late Along the Edgelands,(link is external) was published in 2019. I am completing Poetry and the Problem of Music, a book about the conjunctions and disjunctions between poetry and music since the nineteenth century. I serve as the series editor of Cambridge Elements in Poetry and Poetics(link is external), and I am also the editor of The Cambridge History of Irish Poetry, which is scheduled to appear in 2025. I currently serve as the Chair of the English Department, and from July 2017 through June 2021, I served as Associate Dean in the Graduate Division.
