Stanley (Toby) Levers received his B.A. from U.C. Berkeley, M.Phil from Cambridge University, and Ph.D from Yale University. His interests include medieval and Renaissance literature and intellectual history, modern and post-modern novels, and the history of literary theory. He is currently working on an article and a book, both adapted from his dissertation, Harmony and Letter: The Vicissitudes of Literal Meaning, which investigates the changing concept of the “literal” in works by Augustine, Dante, and Pico della Mirandola
